If you have any feedback on how we can make our new website better please do contact us and we would like to hear from you.

How do I enrol my child and what are the costs?

Your child can start pre-school from the age of 2.5 years, depending on available spaces. As soon as you have decided that you would like your child to attend Brownberrie Lane, contact us for an application form. Fill it in and return to us, we will process it and let you know when there might be a place for your child (we have 2 intakes per academic year, September and January but are able to take children later in the year if places are available). Children's places are free starting from the term after their third birthday. Prior to this we charge a fee of £10 per session (£20 for a full day). Fees are payable in advance at the beginning of each half term - we will send a reminder home with your child.

All children who attend the afternoon session or are staying for a full day will be required to bring a healthy packed lunch (no crisps or chocolate please) for the lunch period from 12pm until 12.30pm.

Parents and Carers in Partnership

Brownberrie Lane recognises parents as the first and most important educators of young children.

We value the contribution that parents/ carers can make to the group.

Parents/carers are welcomed:

  • To work in the group with children - signing up for sessions via the parents/ carers rota in the entrance hall
  • To assist with fundraising
  • To take part in the management of the group - the support group.

Before your child starts pre-school we would like you to visit with your child as often as possible. This helps to start to build relationships between your child and staff and makes starting pre-school a happy experience.

Some children take longer to settle than others. If necessary we will work with you on an individual programme to suit both parent/ carer and child. You are most welcome to stay with your child for as long as you feel your child needs you.

Collection and dropping off

For those children attending morning sessions from 9am please use the main entrance door with the corridor. However, when collecting your child from the morning session at 12pm please wait/collect your child at the playground door. This is to ensure that maximum security is upheld as children will be arriving for the afternoon session at the same time.

Parents dropping off and collecting their children at 12pm and 3pm respectively can continue to use the main entrance.

Children arriving at 12pm for the afternoon session will hang up their coats, put packed lunch boxes on the table, wash their hands and then sit down with the other children ready to eat.

Please ensure that a member of staff closes and locks the door behind you.

What your child needs to bring with them

Please bring a bag of spare clothes (plus nappies if needed )and ensure that all clothing is clearly marked with your child’s name.

Please do not bring toys etc from home as this causes problems with other children. There is plenty to keep your child occupied at preschool!

Staff

Your child will be allocated a key worker who is the main point of contact for your child but all staff are friendly and helpful.

The session leaders are Michelle Brown who works on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and Cathy Smith who works on a Tuesday and Thursday.

General admin enquiries e.g. admissions etc can be directed to our Secretary Caroline Sharland-Ott who works Monday to Thursday.

Illness

If your child has sickness or diarrhoea then please do not bring them into preschool until 48 hours after the last bout.

Please notify preschool of any absences, (inc holidays) with as much notice as possible, either by email or telephone.

Medication

Any medication required by a child must be provided by parents. A signed consent form must be completed for each application of medication.

Toilet Training

We understand that all children are toilet trained at different stages. Please speak to a member of staff if you would like us to support your child through this process. We are also fully aware that accidents do happen which is why we ask for a change of clothes but we also keep some spare clothes at preschool in case of emergencies. Please bring your own nappies/training pants to preschool in your child's bag.

What to do if someone different is collecting your child

Please complete a child authorisation form available from the office of in the corridor if someone different is collecting your child otherwise we will not let your child leave preschool. This applies if you a regular childminder/grandparent is collecting your child or if it is a one off collection.

Notice board

Please keep checking the notice board regularly as this one of the ways we keep you up to date.

Parents Rota

We actively encourage parents to come and help out for a session at preschool to see what we do! Please sign up on the rota for a session per term we would love to see you. Siblings are welcome to come along.

Some parents/carers are delighted to be able to offer their special skills and we always enjoy putting these skills to good use.

Friends of Brownberrie Lane Preschool

Brownberrie Lane Preschool is a charity run education provider. Key decisions such as fundraising social events, the staffing and financial management of the group are made by our parent led committee, 'Friends of Brownberrie Lane Preschool'. We always welcome an extra pair of hands to help out – no specific skills are required just a willingness to help and spare a bit of your free time.

The group meets regularly, times and dates are on the notice board, so please come along.

Complaints Procedure

It is important that as a parent you feel that the service we provide is of a good standard and that any complaint you have is dealt with quickly and efficiently.

If you have any concerns or worries at all please feel free to discuss them with the Play Leader. If you are still concerned we have a complaints procedure, a full copy of which is available on request.

We also welcome positive feedback!
